General description of the DMS Advanced add-on
The DMS Advanced add-on is officially available starting January 1, 2026.
It can be purchased in the Service Store on Proficloud.io from the release date onward.
The DMS Advanced add-on costs €27 per device per year.
It includes all features of the DMS Basic add-on and adds batch processing capabilities for application and firmware updates.
If a user needs to perform one firmware update and three application updates per year on at least five devices within their organization, the DMS Advanced add-on is more cost-effective than the DMS Basic add-on.
Batch firmware updates with the DMS Advanced Add-ons
With the DMS Advanced Add-on, firmware updates for multiple devices can be planned and executed within a single process. If the user wants to update several devices simultaneously in the device overview, they must select the desired devices using the checkbox in the lower right area of each device entry. All selected devices must have the same current firmware version. Otherwise, they cannot be grouped into the same update process. After the selection, the interface displays the number of marked devices in the upper right corner. Using the three-dot menu next to this indicator, the user can choose which action to perform for the selected devices. Clicking “Update Firmware” first triggers a validation of the firmware versions. Only if all devices share the same version does a pop-up modal appear, allowing the user to choose the target firmware. Choosing the firmware version follows the same logic as for individual updates.
At present, firmware updates can only be executed for devices within the PLCnext environment. The required firmware files are provided directly on Proficloud.io. The interface indicates whether a new firmware version is available and which version is currently installed. By clicking “UPDATE FIRMWARE NOW”, the user initiates the update process. Several steps follow. First, the system checks whether the user is authorized to perform a firmware update on the affected devices. Next, it verifies firmware compatibility. After that, the firmware image is downloaded to the devices, validated, and installed. During installation, the devices lose connection because they restart. After a successful update, they reappear online within a few minutes. Each step is logged and stored in an update history.
Strategy for batch updates with the DMS Advanced add-on
The update strategy for batch updates is identical to the procedure used for single updates. The overall process is executed sequentially. Only one device is updated at a time. The update of the next device begins only after the previous one has been successfully completed. If an update fails, the entire process is aborted.
