Tree Access – User Assignment, Roles, and Inheritance
This section describes exclusively the Tree Access tab in the Energy Management Service.
It covers the complete logic for assigning users to metering points.
Purpose of the Tree Access Tab
The Tree Access tab is used to:
- assign access rights to metering points
- restrict users to specific substructures
- inherit access rights hierarchically
The permissions affect:
- visibility of metering points
- access to contained metrics
- usage in widgets, reports, and alerts
Basic Structure of the Tree Access Tab
The Tree Access tab consists of:
- the Members Inbox in the upper area
- the metering point tree view in the lower area
Members Inbox
Content
The Members Inbox displays all users that exist within the organization.
For each user, the following is shown:
- name
- role (Admin, Editor, or Viewer)
Behavior
Users always remain visible in the Members Inbox:
- even if they are assigned to one or more metering points
The Members Inbox serves exclusively as the source for assignments.
Role Logic
Admin
- Admins always have access to all metering points
- Admins do not need to be explicitly assigned
- Assignment in Tree Access is not required for Admins
Editor
- Editors have access to the metering points they are assigned to
- Editors can edit widgets and dashboards if they have access
Viewer
- Viewers can only see metering points they are explicitly assigned to
- No implicit permissions apply
Assigning Users to Metering Points
Assignment via Drag & Drop
Users can be:
- dragged from the Members Inbox
- dropped onto a metering point
Effect of Assignment
When a user is assigned to a metering point, the user:
- gains access to that metering point
- gains access to all underlying sub-metering points
- gains access to all contained metrics
Inheritance is applied automatically.
Display of Assigned Users
Expanding the User List
A petrol-colored arrow is located to the right of a metering point.
Clicking this arrow:
- expands the list of assigned users
Display
The expanded list shows:
- which users have access
- which role each user has
Removing Users
Users can be removed via the user list of a metering point.
Removing a user:
- revokes access to that metering point
- automatically revokes access to all sub-metering points
Separation from Metric Assignment
User assignment:
- does not change metric assignments
- is separate from the drag-and-drop logic in the Metrics tab
A user always remains visible in the Members Inbox.
