Efficient device registration in the Device Management Service – Now with CSV support

Manage hundreds of devices in less time and with fewer errors: With the new CSV import in the Device Management Service, you can register, update or delete multiple devices efficiently – including tags, names and locations. Learn how this can support your IIoT rollout.

Some time ago, a customer reported recurring transmission errors when registering multiple devices in the Device Management Service. He was in the process of transferring a larger number of preconfigured devices – a task that ideally takes around 30 seconds per device. Occasionally, copy-and-paste errors occurred during this process.

The key question was: Is there a way to simplify this process and avoid such errors?

New Feature: Register Devices via CSV File

Following a dedicated development phase, a solution is now available. Devices can now be registered in the Device Management Service using a CSV file. This allows for the simultaneous registration of multiple devices, including optional details such as:

  • Name
  • Comment
  • Tags
  • Position (address / coordinates)

This feature is particularly useful when working with large numbers of devices. In many cases, the relevant data is already available before being entered into the Device Management Service. The CSV import eliminates the need for manual input, reducing the potential for errors and significantly saving time.

When Does the CSV Import Make Sense?

With a manual entry time of approximately 30 seconds per device, the CSV import becomes worthwhile even for just a few devices. The actual import process typically takes only a few seconds – regardless of whether you’re registering three or three hundred devices.

Edit or Delete Existing Devices via CSV

The new CSV functionality is not limited to initial registration. Existing devices can also be edited or deleted using a CSV file. This greatly simplifies the management of larger device fleets and reduces ongoing maintenance efforts.
