Why energy management is becoming a key priority
Gain full control over your energy data – locally or in the cloud. Learn how both Energy Management Services help you visualize consumption, ensure ISO 50001 compliance, and reduce energy costs – tailored to your IT setup and security requirements.
Why energy management is becoming a key priority
Energy efficiency is no longer just a matter of cost or sustainability. It determines competitiveness, security of supply, and regulatory compliance.
A modern energy management system provides the foundation for this: it makes consumption transparent, identifies peak loads, and supplies the data needed for actions and investments.
The Energy Management Services offer two technical approaches:
- Cloud-based, when energy and consumption data from multiple sites need to be analyzed centrally.
- Local, when data must remain within closed IT infrastructures.
Two paths, one goal
Whether cloud or on-premise, both solutions pursue the same objective:
to implement energy management in a way that makes measurement data clear, secure, and always accessible. The choice depends on individual IT requirements and the desired level of self-management.
| Solution | Short Description | Application Area |

Energy Management Service on Proficloud.io
How it works

The Energy Management Service Cloud on Proficloud.io provides a central platform to capture, visualize, and analyze energy consumption, costs, and generation.
All data is securely stored in the cloud, automatically backed up, and available across multiple locations — without the need for dedicated IT infrastructure or maintenance effort.
Core features
- Quick setup: First dashboard within 5–10 minutes, second analysis in less than a minute
- Visualization: Line, bar, pie, and Pareto charts, heatmaps, load duration curves, and statistical analyses
- Comment function: Free-text fields directly on widgets for context-specific notes
- Period comparison: Time periods can be compared directly within the chart
- Automatic updates: Visualizations refresh at defined intervals
- Map integration: Geographical assignment of devices via the Device Management Service
- Extended data sources: Integration of external services (e.g., weather, wind, solar radiation) via optional interfaces
- Data export: CSV and PDF export, API access, email notifications, and in-app alerts
- Security & scalability: Automatic data backup, disaster recovery strategy, and infinitely scalable architecture
- Access management: Role- and resource-based control via Proficloud.io
- Branding & customization: Company branding and individually structured dashboards available
Typical challenges the cloud solves
Distributed energy systems: Consolidation of data from multiple sites and facilities
Limited IT capacity: Operation, maintenance, and data backup are managed centrally via Proficloud.io
Certification requirements: Support for ISO 50001 compliance through standardized reporting
Dynamic energy markets: Real-time data enables rapid response to volatile prices or grid demands
Scalability: Cloud architecture grows with the number of measuring points and devices
Use Case
A logistics service provider operating across Europe manages more than 25 warehouse locations with highly diverse energy profiles.
Cold storage facilities in Southern Europe consume significantly more electricity than the automated high-bay warehouses in the North, while energy data from individual sites had previously been collected monthly and consolidated manually.
After implementing the Energy Management Service Cloud on Proficloud.io, all measurement points—from meters and PV systems to compressors—are integrated automatically.
The ability to compare data across locations proves especially valuable:
- A central dashboard immediately shows which warehouses have the highest energy demand per square meter or per ton of goods.
- Headquarters can identify seasonal consumption patterns and define load management rules that shift refrigeration unit operation times.
- Through the notification system, facility managers are automatically alerted whenever a site exceeds its defined energy intensity threshold.
The result:
A measurable reduction in energy consumption in the first year, significantly simplified ISO 50001 auditing, and no additional on-site IT effort.
Energy Management Service On Premise
How it works

With the Energy Management Service On Premise, companies retain full control over their energy data within their own IT infrastructure.
The solution is designed for organizations that prioritize internal data storage and independent system governance. For example, in isolated networks or environments with strict compliance requirements.
Core features
- Local operation: Installation on an EPC
- Quick setup: First dashboard in about 20 minutes, second analysis within five minutes
- Visualization: Line, bar, and pie charts, heatmaps, and load duration curves (no Pareto chart)
- Reporting: Automated reports compliant with ISO 50001
- Data storage & security: Local data storage, manual backups performed by the operator
- Data export: CSV and PDF export (available from Q3 2025)
- Device management: Management of up to 500 measurement points within the company network
- Integration: OPC UA communication, REST API, or CSV import
- Notifications: Email alerts and in-app messages
- Branding & customization: Corporate design and custom dashboard structures supported
- Cost model: One-time license fee, no ongoing cloud costs
Typical challenges addressed by the On-Premise solution
Strict IT and compliance policies: Full control over data storage, access, and security within the company’s own infrastructure
Limited or no internet connectivity: Reliable operation in isolated or restricted networks
High data protection requirements: Sensitive energy data never leaves the corporate network
Individual integration needs: Flexible connection to existing systems via OPC UA, REST API, or CSV
Predictable costs: One-time licensing without recurring cloud fees
Use Case
An automotive supplier monitors the energy consumption of injection molding machines, temperature control units, and compressed air systems at its main site.
For data protection and security reasons, production data must not leave the plant network.
The Energy Management Service On Premise runs on an internal server and processes CSV data from the building automation energy meters.
From this data, the system generates:
- Load duration and consumption charts for individual machines
- Automated ISO 50001-compliant reports
- Notifications for deviations from reference values
Through continuous analysis, a high base load was identified, caused by temperature control units operating in parallel.
After adjusting their operating times, production energy consumption was reduced.
Since then, the data has served as documentation for energy audits — fully stored and evaluated within the company’s own network.
