PMM 2023 in Amsterdam - Packed, great event where we gather knowledge about Phoenix Contact hardware and share knowledge about Proficloud.io

Knowledge gets bigger when you share it

From Phoenix Contact Smart Business at PMM 2023 in Amsterdam, among others: Hendrik Schramm, Dietmar Knecht and Florian Jacob

Knowledge gets bigger when you share it. Together with more than 200 colleagues worldwide, we were able to attend the Product Manager Meeting in Amsterdam and show our colleagues what our Smart Services – powered by Proficloud.io – can do in regards to the hardware, our colleagues are responsible for.

From our point of view, the goal was to work even more closely with our colleagues from the different business units and to show how we can create further added value for Phoenix Contact and its customers with their hardware components in connection with the Industrial Internet of Things platform. We and all participants agreed on the benefits of moving from a component business to a solution approach, which we can perfectly support with our Smart Services on Proficloud.io.

The already intelligent hardware from various departments can be made even more accessible with the Smart Services on our IIoT platform. In the course of plant availability, therefore, a plus, considering that information can not only still be made available “on site”, but can be accessed (encrypted and secured) from anywhere in the world.

Improved system availability with Smart Services on Proficloud.io

“Speak the language of your audience” was our approach for PMM 2023. To do this, we took some components from our colleagues, including QUINT components (Power supply unit, Uninterruptible power supply, energy storage), CAPAROC modules (power module, electronic circuit breaker), PLCnext controller (AXC F 2152) and a consumer. With these we created a setup that allowed us to show live on site what the added value of the cloud solution was.

We were able to see the consumptions, remaining lifetime and a set up notification system directly in the Time Series Data Service – which also left a very positive impression on the participants.

Together, we worked out other advantages of the cloud solution: While the controller responds faster than the data updates appear on Proficloud.io, a key advantage of using the platform is that the historical data is being stored and also visualized in a way that is easily comprehensible with one view. We all agreed that this is of great value and a key benefit of the Time Series Data Service (only available on Proficloud.io). Furthermore, it would be possible to directly notify colleagues when limit values are exceeded – even when they are not at the plant (because they might be on a business trip, at the home office etc.).

Get notified directly in case of critical health status of your devices – even outside of Proficloud.io

With the help of our user guides, they created email notifications that were triggered as soon as the controller lost connection to Proficloud.io - which could be demonstrated live with little effort (pulling the router plug).

In addition to the use case of the Time Series Data Service, we were able to demonstrate how easy Proficloud.io was to use in several practical parts, e.g. through interactive onboarding or the intuitive user interface. So we “risked” in live demos that our participants could take over presentation parts, e.g. demonstrating the functionalities of the DMS Basic Add-on. A bright future ahead for Smart Services – powered by Proficloud.io

All eight workshops we were allowed to hold had interesting technical discussions as a result, as well as questions about trial setup and further possibilities for using our Smart Services.

Our stated goal for the PMM 2023 in Amsterdam was (and still is) to ignite a spark among colleagues (and of course users) from around the world. A spark that grows into an idea and shows possibilities on how Phoenix Contact components with Proficloud.io become even more interesting for customers, colleagues and users. Not ony do we see added value by combining their components with our platform, but we also see use cases with a significant social impact – creating shared value (CSV).

For Phoenix Contact Smart Business, PMM 2023 was a complete success and we look forward to the future and to new, promising and solution-oriented collaborations.
